Cebu truly has a lot to offer and it now proves to be a scenic backdrop for a blockbuster movie, as what Filipino moviegoers may have seen in KathNiel’s recent hit, “Can’t Help Falling In Love.”

The loveteam, composed of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla, shoot a lot of their scenes in Cebu. Even those who haven’t seen the movie can see a glimpse of some of Cebu’s top tourist destinations in the movie trailer.

If you want to tour the places that KathNiel have gone to and shoot some romantic scenes in, here are the Cebu tourist spots featured in the movie.

Argao Plaza

The Argao Unity Plaza was shot in its full glory in the movie trailer, with all its Bermuda-covered yard, the benches, and the well-placed trees. The trailer also gives a glimpse of the San Miguel Arcangel Church, which was first built in the 18th century.

The church is adjacent to the town plaza and the Hall of Justice, also seen in the trailer. It was constructed during the Spanish times, making it one of the town’s historic landmarks. The building was also used as a Cuartel or barracks when World War II broke out.

Boljoon Church

The stars were seen in the Nuestra Señora del Patrocinio de Maria Parish Church, also known as the Boljoon Church, standing in front of the altar, prominently seen in the movie trailer. The church has been declared as a National Cultural Treasure by the National Museum of the Philippines as well as a National Historical Landmark by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines. It is also being considered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Philippines under the Baroque Churches of the Philippines. The Boljoon Church’s construction started in the 18th century, although it was only finished in the first half of the 19th century.

The altar is the home of the ancient image of Our Lady of Patrocinio, which was brought by an Augustinian friar from Spain in 1599. The image was said to have survived from two church fires and lightning and invasion and has retained its beauty despite centuries of destruction. The retablo has a pseudo-baroque rococo style with gold lead highlights and polychrome accents.

The Boljoon Church also retained its ancient, ornate pulpit, where priests used to deliver their sermon back when microphones and speakers weren’t available yet.

Osmeña Peak, Dalaguete

Osmeña Peak is Cebu’s highest point at 1,013 meters above sea level. The trek will be worth it when you reach the peak as it offers the scenic view of the jagged cliffs with the sea in the background. You can take the habal-habal to the entrance of the climb in Mantalongon, Dalaguete and reach the peak in about 20 minutes. If you don’t want to be disappointed by the fog blocking the view when you’re at the peak, it would be best to climb in the afternoon. If you have some time to spare, you can also wait for the sunset before climbing back down.

Moalboal

The loveteam was also spotted by netizens shooting in Moalboal, complete with their diving gear on. The town is known for its great diving and snorkeling spots. Its most known diving sites include Tongo Point, Pescador Island, Tuble, Sunken Island, Sampaguita, and Airplane Wreck. It also has marine sanctuaries in Saavedra and Basdiot.

Even a local daily posted this contributed photo of the stars, reportedly practicing their diving at the Cabana Beach Club Resort in Moalboal, a town at the southwestern side of Cebu.

The hit movie also shot some of its scenes at the Boho Rock Resort in the municipality of Poro on Camotes Islands. It is a popular tourist spot because of its rock formation and has created a name for itself for its unique ship form. The resort is now managed by the local government. Boho, which means “hole,” is an ideal place for those who not only want to take a dip but also take in the view of the turquoise waters of the sea.

For the more adventurous, the Boho Rock Resort has two cliff jumping areas, with one cliff being 18-foot high and the other is meant for the fearless with its 40-foot height. Would you jump? But first-timers can always try the water slides. Someday, you might want to come back and finally take the jump.

From mainland Cebu, you can take the ferry to the Port of Poro, ride a habal-habal (motorcycle for hire) and ask to be dropped at Boho Rock Resort. The resort only asks guests for a minimal entrance fee.

Bukilat Cave in Tudela, Poro Island, Camotes

Bukilat Cave is located in Tudela in Poro Island, Camotes. It is one of the eight natural caves and is the most famous among them. The cave is blessed with cool water, believed to be coming from an underground spring and droplets from the stalactites. In the middle of the cave, there is a huge opening, where light comes through during a sunny day. It gives the cave a more romantic feeling, which is probably why it was chosen for the loveteam’s scenes.

So, which spot would you like to hit first?
