Sibonga, home of Simala Shrine
Down the stretch, is a third class municipality, the municipality of Sibonga.
Just within the decade, the municipality has been known globally from the emergence of this emblem of faith. Located in Lindogon in the town of Sibonga, Cebu is the Simala Shrine. People from different localities, national and internal flock to this place to pay their devotions. The atmosphere that emanates is worth pondering, can take your knees to kneel and mediate for a while. The shrine is one of the most visited religious places in the province of Cebu. It is where thousands of devotees visit the shrine every week to pay homage to the miraculous Virgin Mary.
Some useful tips to note:
-Hiring a taxi (around Php1000 to Php2000, roundtrip) going to Simala from Cebu is a bit expensive.
-No eating inside the shrine but you can bring your own water and food where you can eat at the cottages near the compound.
-If you would like to relax and keep away from the crowd/devotees on your visit, avoid Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Miracles happen every day. Faith is not enough. We need works of grace and mercy. For contemplating, take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step. It needs effort.
