If you are craving for an authentic Mexican food but in a shoestring budget, MexiMAMA Cocina Latina is the perfect place for you. Nestled in a humble corner beside SaveMore in Marina Mall, this diner exhibits a homey setting for a fine-dining quality of food and promises authentic Mexican cuisine.
Chef Victor Rusiana, the Head Chef and Manager, while being so accommodating and down-to-earth, showed us the spices they are using for all the food in their menu. These spices are imported from Mexico, USA together with the flour. A mix of 13 spices is what comprises the secret ingredient that gives their cuisine the authentic sweet and spicy Mexican taste.
A little bit of trivia, Chef Victor started out as a dishwasher at Bluewater Maribago Resort where he met and became friends with Chef Dennis Jay Uy, now the Executive Sous Chef who trained him into cooking and helped him establish the diner.
Since its opening last August 15, MexiMAMA has been serving palatable array of Mexican dishes; and just recently, it launched a new set of appetizers, main dishes and desserts that are both delightful and affordable.
Below are the foods added on their menu:
Nachos in Salsa. Homemade nachos dipped in Salsa Roja.
Queso Fundido. Homemade masa corn chips with a dip made of 3 cheese fondue and jalapeño at P85.00.
Elotes. Grilled Mexican sweet corn with crema, jalapeño butter, roja and Mexican seasoning at P75.00.
Empanadas. Its filling is composed of homemade chorizo, mixed cheese and topped with crema roja. 1 serving has 2 empanadas for only P75.00.
Chimichanga. Homemade fried burritos filled with beans, Mexican rice, 3 cheeses and a choice of pork, fish or chicken meat. This costs P185.00.
Carne En Salsa. Stewed US beef with Mexican chilies and orange-tomato sauce. You can definitely taste the orange in every bite of the beef. A sumptuous meal for only P175.00.
Tres Leches Flan. Made up of 3 milk custard, Mexican Canella and caramel sauce. The milks are condensed, evaporated and fresh milk combined altogether. Mexican Canella is like cinnamon with an after taste of Kopiko coffee. This costs P65.00.
Churros. Fried dough sprinkled with cinnamon and comes with two types of dips, chocolate and dulce de leche.
Dining here is like eating deliciously cooked meals in your own kitchen with your friends or family. The atmosphere is filled with cordiality you won’t feel isolated even if you’re eating by yourself – a reason why this modest diner is a favorite not just by locals but also by foreigners.
The very welcoming traits of Chef Victor and the attendants, plus the splendid cookery will surely infuse you with a happy heart and tummy. MexiMAMA is open daily from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM and accepts orders and drop off catering. If you happen to drop by Marina Mall, be sure to take a turn towards the side of SaveMore, look for a diner with yellow painted walls and try their authentic Mexican treats and meals.
